Our History

First Baptist of Clare is one of the oldest established congregations in Clare, Michigan. It all began in the town hall in 1887; those faithful few began a rich heritage! Just three years later in 1900 they constructed their first church building on the corner of 6th and Pine streets in Clare. By the 1950's FBC needed more room and started construction on a much larger building at its current location on Wilcox. This new building was finished in 1958 and has had several renovations since.
Our current pastor, Doug Blackwell has been our senior pastor for 27 years. He is also the chaplain for the Clare Police Department. First Baptist strives to be a  family-oriented church that is Biblical, fun and God-honoring.

What Should I Wear?

At FBC, we strive for an environment that is judgement-free and comfortable. Anything from jeans to a suit will fit in just fine! The important thing is you come to worship with us!

What do we believe?

We believe in the virgin birth and the sinless life and deity of Jesus Christ. We believe He sacrificially  took the punishment for our sins that we deserved. If we accept His free gift of salvation, we may join Him in heaven someday. We believe Christ rose from the dead and is alive and living today as part of the Trinity, or the 3 in one Godhead. We serve the Lord in faithfulness because we love Him. To view our complete doctrinal statement click here. While FBC utilizes a number of translations we mainly reference the NKJV during services.

What's the Music Like?

FBC offeres a blended service of both traditional and contemporary music. During a typical worship service we sing a handful of songs (both hymns and choruses) accompanied by a variety of instruments including the piano, organ, guitar, drums, autoharp and others. We are led in worship by both male and female singers.

By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. ~John 13:35
